Imported records from databases other than LA - revised procedure

Our procedure when importing records from remote databases where the records are identical for the copy in hand, i.e., not used as clones for different editions, etc.

In these cases we have been modifying the 040 tag to $aWMDU only, as for original cataloguing. We will now follow the procedure outlined in LA under: MARC field 040 in imported records:

http://www.nla.gov.au/librariesaustralia/documents/CombinedLASinstructions-importrecord.pdf

The LA site gives examples and basically means that for such copy records we will retain the string of library symbols. We will then add the database symbol in $d (as listed, but only if not already in the 040) and then add $dWMDU

Note that the date entered in 008 will also not be changed for these ‘copy’ records.
